East Beach and Pagham Harbour
Either stroll for 15 minutes or drive for 5 down to East Beach Car Park and follow the sea wall east. Walk past all the old railway carriages now converted into houses. The beach here is very quiet and is where Eric Coates who lived in Selsey composed The Sleepy Lagoon, the signature tune for Desert Island Discs. Keep walking past the bluebell wood into Pagham Harbour Nature reserve. This beach is normally deserted and there are miles of walks around the reserve. You are allowed to take dogs on a lead around most of the reserve.
Magical Medmerry
Medmerry is our newest nature reserve. It is the largest realignment of a beach in the UK and is between Selsey and Bracklesham. The reserve is very new and lots of planting is taking place. A new habitat has been formed for the water voles and there are already deer running in the reserve and birds taking up residence. Pagham and Medmerry are managed by the RSPB. There are miles of tracks for walking and a cycle track which means the Witterings are easily accessible by bike. From the Witterings there is a large circular route up to Chichester and back down to Selsey (Aprox 30 miles) most of it off road. You can hire bikes in Selsey from Summit Bikes. Dogs are allowed in the reserve.
